The Right Livelihood and Empowernment Organization (RLEO) is a non-governmental organization which was officially registered on, 2008 and it operates in Tanzania. It is not affiliated by any political party. RLEO's mission is to consolidate and entrench the promising democratic institutions and practices so that they will endure, operate more effectively, efficiently and responsively, withstand the tests of political conflict or crisis, and provide broader and more meaningful opportunities for effective, enlightened and inclusive participation. RLEO believes in independent and vibrant media which are critical to the development of free and just societies. RLEO views the media as an integral part of modern democracy, national development and integration. Thus media must be a progressive force to support human rights and shape new ideas in an open society through informed, impartial reporting and analyses. A free, sustainable and competent press is a catalyst and resource for literacy, modernization, informed polities and participatory development.

Mission and vision

RLEO strongly holds that freedom, equality, justice and dignity are essential things for the achievement of the legitimate social and economic development aspirations for Tanzanians. RLEO holds that human beings are inviolable. Every human being shall be entitled to respect for ones life and the integrity of that person. No one may be arbitrarily deprived of this right. Every individual shall have the right to the respect of the dignity inherent in a human being. The society shall ensure the elimination of every form of discrimination against people and also ensure the protection of the rights of women, children, albino, people with HIV/AIDS and other people with any form of disability. Every individual shall have duties towards his family, society and legally recognized communities. RLEO recognizes that the rights and freedoms of each individual shall be exercised with due regard to the rights of others, collective security, morality and common interest. Every individual shall have the duty to respect and consider his fellow beings without discrimination, and to maintain relations aimed at promoting, safeguarding and reinforcing mutual respect and tolerance. Every individual shall be entitled to equal protection of the just law. RLEO will have give special attention women since sex discrimination, female genital mutilation and violence hamper a safe and enabling environment and marginalizes them from accessing freedom, economic resources, information and participation in decision making structures at all levels. Concerned with the facts above, a group of persons is wholly given to establishing an association such as this to carry out the task of bringing light to those in need. They would prove a life worth of living, thus RLEO has come to be established for that purpose.
